When to book your newborn photoshoot?

Welcoming a newborn into the family is a special and exciting time. As a new parent, you want to capture those precious moments and memories to look back on later. Imagine one day showing your little one these photos and reminiscing about bringing them home and falling madly in love. But when is the best time to have a newborn photoshoot?

The ideal time for a newborn photoshoot is within the first two to three weeks of your baby’s life. During this time, your baby is still sleepy and can be easily posed in those adorable, curled-up positions. While your baby sleeps, I will capture all of their tiny features, their eye lashes, their toes, their hands and their little button nose.

Another benefit of having a newborn photoshoot within the first two to three weeks is that you will be able to capture those early bonding moments between you and your baby. These moments are fleeting and are often hard to remember later on. A newborn photoshoot is a great way to document those first few days with your little one.

It’s also important to plan ahead for your newborn photoshoot. I book up months in advance, so it’s a good idea to schedule your session well before your due date.

When it comes to the location of your newborn photoshoot, at home where you’re most comfortable is best. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, you have everything on hand that you could possibly need and you don’t have to battle traffic, parking and the elements! Having your newborn photoshoot at home also makes for much more personal and meaningful images to look back on in years to come. We can incorporate the baby’s nursery and special items that hold significance for your family too.

Having your newborn shoot at home is also a fabulous option if there are older siblings. The arrival of the baby may have them feeling a little unsure about things so being in a familiar, safe space with their own toys often leads to happier, more comfortable kids and stunning photographs.

As a mother myself, I know the unpredictability and challenges that come with a newborn baby. With this in mind, I will always go at your pace. There are no time limits which means if baby needs a feed, a nappy change or is a little unsettled, we will pause. Absolutely no rushing, and no pressure.

The first couple of weeks with your newborn is such fleeting time, which passes in a sleep-deprived, coffee fuelled blurr. Booking a newborn photoshoot at your home is the perfect way to pause and capture the memories for you to reflect on later. Babies grow and change so quickly so I passionately believe that taking photos is so important, and something you will never regret.
